The practice was started in 1967 and has established an excellent reputation for designing successful buildings. A lot of our work is repeat business for long-standing clients who value good design and the service we can provide.
MTA Chartered Architects Ltd are an RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Chartered Practice with professionally qualified staff who offer a full range of architectural services. We have also won a number of awards, including the prestigious Civic Trust Award.
Creating sustainable buildings is an important part of the office philosophy. We have wide experience with environmentally friendly building methods and low energy technologies.

Jonathan Ling-Cottey BA(Hons) Dip Arch CA RIBA

Director
​
Jonathan graduated in Architecture from Birmingham Central University with a 2:1 BA Honours Degree in 1989 and Post Graduate Diploma in 1993. Jonathan qualified as an architect in 1997 and over the years has gained considerable experience in large and small practices throughout the country picking up several design awards along the way. Jonathan joined the Brixham office of MTA in 2013 as Senior Architect and became a director in 2014 and now runs the practice. Jonathan’s specialism’s include contemporary design alongside listed buildings and conservation projects and is a registered Conservation Architect.

Kirsty graduated in English Language and Literature at Birmingham Central University and following a successful career in Media and Marketting joined the practice in 2021. Kirsty takes care of the PR and front-of-house activities as well as maintaining the day-to-day running of the office.

Senior Architectural Technician
​
After following a career in civil engineering, Sam qualified in Architectural Technology and Construction Management in Vitus Bering University, Denmark.
Since 2004 Sam has worked in Ireland and the UK with a number of Architects firms specialising in conservation and listed building projects as well as large retail and commercial projects.
Sam joined MTA in 2017 and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team.

Dawn joined the practice in 2001 after a successful career in banking and administration. Dawn takes care of the business finances and corporate operations behind the scene.
Brian Farmer MCIAT

Consultant Director

Brian joined MTA Architects in 1971 and has a wealth of experience in building projects, particularly in the South West. As the elder-stateman of the practice, Brian's thorough knowledge of construction methods and proven track record of designing attractive and successful buildings has made him well placed to offer advice on all types of buildings from historic houses to “state of the art” commercial buildings.
Brian now enjoys semi-retirement though maintains a consultant role in the business.
