New shellfish processing units, Oxen Cove, Brixham.

The redevelopment of Oxen Cove Car Park will support and enable the expansion of the existing fish market and its associated supporting industries which in recent years has proven hugely successful and elevated Brixham to the highest-value and most successful fishing port in England and Wales. The new development will include a single building that extends across the whole site frontage and adopts a linear plan form with both the front and rear responding to the geometries of the site. The facades adopt an ordered appearance to maintain a rhythm and balance to the whole frontage and is a legible representation of the plan. Materials have been kept to a selected palette with distinct vertical panels that include timber cladding, metal cladding and a concrete plinth course. The timber cladding will weather naturally to create a variated colour range as well provide a visual link to the facades of existing fish market. Large panels of glass and smooth cladding are introduced at entrance points to interrupt the areas of cladding and lift the development beyond a standard light industrial scheme, as well as provide natural light and ventilation
